World`s Internet traffic grew 62 percent in 2010
Baku, October 8 (AZERTAC). Internet traffic increased by 62 percent worldwide in 2010, said the study from TeleGeography.
A slight slowdown in network communications was observed in comparison with the results of last year (74 percent), however overall trend remains in force. The highest activity is observed in Eastern Europe, as well as in Southeast Asia and India. Nearly 100 per cent traffic increase was recorded in the Middle East. The report says that steady growth was recorded in the regions where the Internet dominates, that is Western Europe and North America -over 50 percent a year, Lenta reports.
“Providers have to apply and install a huge amount of new equipment to cope with the traffic growth,” commented TeleGeography`s CEO Alan Mauldin.
The study also notes that there is still a huge gap between the developed and developing countries in terms of development of Internet technologies. For instance, the number of Internet users in Austria, with a population of about 8 million people, exceeds the number of Africans who have access to the World Wide Web.
