The Baku Zoological Park: A corner of wildlife in the heart of the capital VIDEO
Baku, July 2, AZERTAC
The latest feature in AZERTAC’s “If I Were a Tourist” column highlights the Baku Zoological Park.
Nestled in Baku’s Narimanov district, adjacent to Dede Gorgud Park and ADA University, the Baku Zoological Park spans 4.25 hectares. This modern zoological park offers visitors an unforgettable experience with its contemporary infrastructure, spacious walking paths, and engaging educational exhibits. Here, visitors can observe wildlife from different continents and learn fascinating facts about the animals and their natural habitats.
While the park was home to just over 200 animals representing 60 species before its reconstruction, it has since evolved into a thriving sanctuary housing 157 species. Among them are 22 rare and endangered species included in national and international Red Lists. In addition, the park’s aqua terrarium is home to 76 species.
The Baku Zoological Park comprises three main exhibition zones: Mammals (carnivores, rodents, and hoofed animals), Ornithology (birds), and the Aquarium and Terrarium (fish, amphibians, reptiles, and insects). The park also plays an important role in wildlife conservation by helping preserve the gene pool of endangered species, supporting breeding programs, and facilitating the reintroduction of certain species into their natural habitats.
In recognition of its ecological significance, the Baku Zoological Park has been included in the list of Specially Protected Natural Areas and Objects.
For those wishing to experience nature and discover the fascinating world of wildlife, the Baku Zoological Park is one of the capital’s most attractive destinations for leisure and recreation.
