AN-140 CRASH VICTIMS IDENTIFIED
The Azerbaijan Airline’s (AZAL) AN-140 fell off radar screens 5 minutes after taking off at 22:19 (local time) from Baku to Aktau. Shortly thereafter the plane’s crash in the village of Narfaran village near Baku killing all 18 passengers and 5 members of crew on board. The passengers were citizens of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Australia, Turkey and Georgia. According to the initial results of the investigation, the crew was consisted of aircraft commander Andrey Lavrin, co-pilot Farhad Ganbarli, flight engineers Gennadiy Chernyshov and flight attendant Anjelika Popova. Names of the dead passengers have also been identified as follows: Isa Abbasov, Namig Abbasov, Tahmaz Allahverdiyev, N.M, Jafarov, Rasim Rasulov, Nikulina (first and middle names unknown), O. Amanov, Aygum Bakhishova. Gyzylgul Huseynova, Kutsenko (first and middle names unknown) (Azerbaijan); Artsyanari (first and middle names unknown) (Georgia); Alan Dextermer (Australia); Hardy Ian James (UK); Demir Erdal (Turkey); Dmitriy Isakov, Natyana Garnikova, Bulut Kalantayev and Aynur Suleymanova (Kazakhstan).
President has ordered today to set up a State Commission to find out the causes of the accident.
The State Concern Azerbaijan Airlines has also set up a special Commission, which included representatives of the CIS International Aviation Commission, AZAL operating personnel and experts of the crashed aircraft’s manufacturer.
Three years ago AN-140 belonging to Ukraine killed all 45 passengers on board while landing at the Iran’s ‘Islam’ airport.
