Azerbaijan, China: diplomatic relations turn 20
Beijing, April 23 (AZERTAC). Beijing has hosted a roundtable on 20th anniversary of Republic of Azerbaijan and People's Republic of China.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of China and representatives of other state organizations, staff of academy, also members of Azerbaijani Embassy to China attended the event which was held in the residence of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
At first the participants acquainted with the photo-exhibition organized by Azerbaijani embassy. National Leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev’s visits to China, meetings on mutual relations as well as architectural monuments of Azerbaijan, tourism potential and natural landscapes and modern development of Baku were represented in photos.
In the opening of the meeting Deputy Director of Institute of Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Li Chin Fang spoke of the importance of the roundtable co-organized with Azerbaijani Embassy to China.
“Such events contribute to not only the strengthening of friendly relations between the two countries, as well as positively impact on development of cooperation between the Embassy of Azerbaijan and scientific research centres, as well as the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences”, he said.
Azerbaijani Ambassador to China Latif Gandilov noted that the relations between the two countries have great history. These relations have entered into a new area after 1991 when Azerbaijan regained its independence.
National Leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev’s China visit in 1994 played major role in development of these relations.
That visit made juridical base of the cooperation. The president of Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev’s visits in 2005 and 2008 also contributed to the development of mutual relations between the two countries.
Azerbaijani ambassador Gandilov noted the high level relations in political sphere. “Azerbaijan and China support each other in the international arena. China recognizes the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan supports “Single China” policy. In addition, PRC supports the choosing of Azerbaijan as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
“China is one of the first countries to recognize the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan is an important partner for China in the Caucasus” said the Chinese Senior Official of Foreign Affairs said.
“China is keen on strengthening the cooperation in various fields and traditional friendly relations with Azerbaijan.”
Investigator of the Institute of Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Gao Hua Rong and the representative of Development Research Center of the State Council, PRC Yang Jian Hong also made speech at the roundtable.
