Azerbaijan, Italy explore interparliamentary ties

On July 2, Ziyafat Asgarov, Deputy Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, met with an Italian delegation led by Nazario Pagano, President of the Constitutional Affairs Committee of the Italian Chamber of Deputies.
During the meeting, Deputy Speaker Asgarov noted that the high-level dialogue between Azerbaijan and Italy provides fertile ground for deepening interparliamentary ties. He added that reciprocal visits and regular political contacts contribute significantly to the multifaceted development of bilateral relations.
Highlighting Italy as Azerbaijan’s largest trading partner in Europe, the officials praised the successful expansion of collaboration across the energy, economic, and investment sectors. They also reviewed the development of Azerbaijan-European Union relations, as well as the cultural and humanitarian projects implemented in Italy by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
Asgarov briefed the Italian delegation on the Milli Majlis’ legislative activities, its representation in international parliamentary platforms, and its key priorities in parliamentary diplomacy.
For his part, Nazario Pagano noted that trade and economic cooperation between the two nations is developing steadily. He described the successful operations of Italian companies in Azerbaijan and joint projects in the oil, gas, and energy sectors as key pillars of bilateral cooperation that offer lucrative opportunities for future advancement.
The meeting was also attended by Azer Karimli, Head of the Azerbaijan-Italy interparliamentary working group, and Luca Di Gianfrancesco, Italian Ambassador to Azerbaijan.
