Azerbaijani delegation attends Global Environmental Security Assembly in Indonesia
Baku, December 14 (AZERTAC). Member of the Azerbaijani parliament, vice-president of the Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Asaf Hajiyev has participated in the 2nd Global Environmental Security assembly in Bali, Indonesia organized by the International Environmental Security (IES).
The event brought together 600 representatives from 80 countries, including chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Governor of Bali, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Chairman of Former Philippine House of Representatives, Former President of the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste, former Deputy Prime ministers of Canada.
Asaf Hajiyev spoke at the event on the projects carried out in the Black Sea region, as well as in Azerbaijan.
Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict the Azerbaijani MP highlighted the impact of the Armenian aggressive policy on environment. He noted Armenians` territorial claims against Azerbaijan resulted in the occupation of 20 percent of territories and more than one million Azerbaijanis became IDPs. As a result of military operations ten thousands of people, including civilians, women, children and the elderly were killed.
Hajiyev said according to the World Bank the conflict caused $60 billion damage to Azerbaijani economy. He pointed out the UN Security Council adopted 4 resolutions on immediate withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the occupied territories, return of IDPs to their homes. Hajiyev added Armenia had not implemented these resolutions so far. He called on the international community not to remain indifference to this injustice.
