AZERBAIJANI, SWISS OFFICIALS HOLD POLITICAL CONSULTATIONS
Baku, October 1 (AZERTAC). Delegations led by Azerbaijani deputy foreign minister Khalaf Khalafov and Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation Peter Maurer held political consolations in Bern.
The sides exchanged views on bilateral cooperation in various fields, including political, economic, commercial, cultural and humanitarian ones.
They praised current level of political dialogue and relations between the two countries.
Khalafov and Maurer said Azerbaijan and Switzerland have “huge” potential for economic cooperation.
They hailed involvement of Swiss companies in Azerbaijan`s non-oil sector.
The officials also focused on importance of expanding the energy cooperation.
The Swiss Secretary of State invited Azerbaijani companies to invest in his country.
The delegations also discussed recent developments in the region and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Khalafov invited the Swiss Secretary of State to Azerbaijan for next round of negotiations.
As part of his visit to Switzerland, the Azerbaijani Deputy Minister also met with newly elected vice-president of the Confederation, Federal minister of foreign affairs Micheline Calmy-Rey.
The sides praised the current state of bilateral ties. They also exchanged views on political consultations between the two nations.
The Swiss minister highlighted the important role of Azerbaijan in the region, describing the country as a “significant partner”.
Calmy-Rey and Khalafov talked about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and stressed the importance of its soonest resolution for the region`s sustainable peace and stability.
Azerbaijan`s ambassador to Switzerland Murad Najafbeyli was present at the meeting.
