BAKU HOSTS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON DEFENSE POLICY AND STRATEGY

Baku, October 1 (AZERTAC). An international conference entitled “Defense policy and strategy” has been held in Azerbaijan`s capital, bringing together the country`s officials, NATO experts and foreign military attaches.

Opening the event, Azerbaijan`s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Araz Azimov said NATO must ensure security not only of its members, but also its partners.

“Azerbaijan is ready to review conceptual aspects of its cooperation with NATO. We need to increase the quality of our work under joint programs. Strategic partnership and cooperation with NATO must be based on mutual trust.”

Jiri Sedivy, NATO`s Assistant Secretary General for Defense Policy and Planning, said collective defense and security are key priorities for the alliance.

Sedivy said NATO was working on a new strategic concept, and that it would be put on discussion during the organization`s next year summit in Lisbon.

The conference has been co-organized by the Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry and NATO.
