Baku, 7 December (AZERTAC). Azerbaijani consul in Los-Angeles Elman Abdullayev delivered a speech in a conference on the geopolitical situation of the Caspian basin and U.S.-Azerbaijan relationship during the Obama administration organized by the US Azeris Network (USAN) in Chicago.

In his remarks, Abdullayev stressed the importance of the Caspian region for the Obama administration.

He noted Azerbaijan plays an important role in promoting cooperation in the region. The consul pointed out his country supports diversification of energy routes which is a key issue in ensuring energy security.

Abdullayev underlined regional projects initiated by Azerbaijan contributed to integration of the Caspian region into Europe. “But Armenia`s occupation policy impedes comprehensive cooperation in the region”, he added.

Executive director of USAN Adil Bagirov, Mayor of Skokie George Van Dusen, official of Pakistan`s consulate general Asad Hayuddin and several scientists attended the event.
