Baku, 7 December (AZERTAC). Chairman of the Azerbaijan Central Election Commission Mazahir Panahov has met today a delegation of the Council of Europe`s Congress of Local and Regional Authorities to discuss preparatory works head of municipal elections set for December 23.

Panahov said CEC has been cooperating with the Congress since 1999.

Touching upon the pre-election situation in the country, he said about 32 thousand candidates from 18 political parties had been registered for the elections. He underlined every conditions were created in the country for the pre-election campaign.

The CEC chairman noted trainings for members of constituency and precinct election commissions were underway.

He also underlined all necessary steps will be taken to conduct the forthcoming elections in a free, fair and transparent manner.

The delegation members expressed hope that the elections will be held in a democratic manner.

The sides also exchanged views on prospects for cooperation between CoE and CEC.
