Chinese Global Times seeks cooperation with AZERTAC

“The Global Times, one of the influential newspapers of the Chinese Communist Party, is interested in building cooperation with Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC),” said the Global Times deputy managing editor Li Jian. He met with AZERTAC`s head of section Vugar Aliyev and special correspondent Shahin Jafarov in China.
Li Jian underlined that the Global Times has the largest number of readers after Xinhua News Agency and daily Jenmin Jibao. He highlighted the activity and international relations of the Global Times, which has a daily circulation of 1.7 million copies. “The Global Times has bureaus in more than 30 foreign countries. Established as a Chinese language publication in 1993, the newspaper launched its English language version in 2009. The newspaper also produces news in English language for the USA, Europe, Asia and Africa,” Li Jian added.
Vugar Aliyev highlighted AZERTAC`s history and achievements. “AZERTAC is a major news agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the only source of the official government news. AZERTAC was founded by the Government of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic on March 1, 1920. Along with the official government information, AZERTAC produces news in Azerbaijani, English, Russian, French, German, Arabic and Chinese languages on a round-the-clock basis, covering all spheres of life in Azerbaijan, including politics, economy, culture, sports, health, environment.” He also provided information of AZERTAC`s photo and video websites, children`s knowledge portal, and the agency`s activity in social networks.”
AZERTAC`s Beijing-based special correspondent Shahin Jafarov told of the agency`s international relations. He said that AZERTAC now holds presidency of the News Agencies World Congress and the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA). He said the agency has bureaus in 21 foreign countries. Shahin Jafarov also highlighted AZERTAC`s news service in Chinese, the activity of the agency`s bureau in China and cooperation with Chinese news outlets, including Xinhua News Agency.
Li Jian presented a draft memorandum of understanding on cooperation between Global Times and AZERTAC to the agency`s employees.
They also discussed the role of the media in developing Azerbaijan-China relations.
