COE SEMINAR ON DEVELOPMENT OF CIVIL SOCIETY HELD IN PODMOSKOVIE
Moscow, 20 November (AZERTAC). An information seminar “National minorities in Russia: development of languages, cultures, mass-media and civil society”, organizers of which were the Council of Europe, the Ministry of Regional Development of the Russian Federation and the Delegation of the European Commission to Russia”, was held in Podmoskovie, Moscow suburbs. Experts of the Council of Europe, representatives of state structures of the Russian Federation, ethnic mass-media from the Russian regions took part in seminar.
Chairman of seminar, the expert of the Council of Europe Tom Mooring, opening the session, told that the goal of the action was to acquaint the Russian journalists and those who are engaged in national subjects, with tools of the Council of Europe in the field of protection of the rights of national minorities, in particular, obligations on protection of languages of minority. He called on all participants to take active part in discussions and exchange of experience.
Presentation of the Joint Program of the Council of Europe and the European Commission in cooperation with the Ministry of Regional Development of the Russian Federation, the goal of which was support of ethnic minorities in Russia and expansion of recognition of their special originality in the field of culture, education, languages, mass-media and civil society were the main topics of the workshop.
Participants of the seminar were in detail informed on activity of the Council of Europe on protection of the rights of national minorities.
Also were conducted interesting master classes on the topic “Ethnic subjects in the Russian mass-media: errors and successes” and “Legal and ethical bases of activity of mass-media on discrimination overcoming”.
