EBU condemns Armenia for refusing to participate at Eurovision Song Contest
Geneva, May 3 (AZERTAC). Responding to the question of AZERTAC correspondent on refusal of Armenia to participate at the Eurovision-2012 Song Contest in Baku, the director general of EBU Ingrid Deltenre stated the following:
“In the beginning Armenia has made an application on participation in song contest. All security guarantees have been given to Armenia. However, then it has decided not to participate in contest. It is regretful. We consider that it runs counter to our rules. All guarantees have been given to Armenia. We had very serious negotiations to this end. And the consequences for Armenia will be also very serious. It is unacceptable for all of us".
As is known, the European Broadcasting Union fined Armenia for refusing to participate at "Eurovision-2012" in Baku.
According to the decision of EBU, Armenia will make a full payment defined for participation at the contest, as well as will pay half of that amount as a penalty. In addition, the Public Television of Armenia will have to air the final of "Eurovision".
According to EBU, in the case of failure to comply the decision, Armenia may be removed from the "Eurovision" in 2013. At the same time, EBU representatives stressed that the decision on penalty was issued in accordance with the rules of the contest and reasons why Armenia refused to participate were not taken in account.
Thus, Armenia has once again dishonored itself in the eyes of world community.
