Baku, December 11 (AZERTAC). The Office of the French President has made available on its official website the information about a meeting between Presidents Nicolas Sarkozy of France and Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan during the latter`s official visit to France on December 8-9.

According to the information, European Union, France need Azerbaijan in terms of supporting the political processes concerning energy security, counterterrorism operations in Afghanistan and Iran nuclear issue.

The information says French President called on President Aliyev to use his authority in relationship with Iran officials. The importance of Azerbaijan was highlighted in terms of the role country plays as the energy source and diversification of energy supplies.

The most important point is that the French President called on to agree basic principles for resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in line with Azerbaijan`s stance.

During the meeting, President Sarkozy stressed the need to increase trade turnover with Azerbaijan, which is France`s main trade partner in the Caucasus.
