Jeddah hosts 4th meeting of International Islamic News Agency`s General Assembly
Baku, December 11(AZERTAC). The 4th meeting of the International Islamic News Agency`s (IINA) General Assembly was held in the headquarters of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabian Culture and Information Minister, director of IINA Executive Council Abdul Aziz Khoja opened the meeting, highlighting the ongoing developments in the Islamic world. He underlined the importance of joint activity of new agencies in provision of unbiased information to society.
OIC Secretary General`s assistant on political affairs Abdullah bin Abdurrahman Alim touched upon the organisation`s activity on information, and underlined the necessity of strengthening the role of IINA.
The meeting`s participants from more than 30 news agencies discussed IINA`s draft budget for 2012. New members were elected to IINA`s Executive Council and financial committee in the meeting. The participants also held discussions on election of the organisation`s director general, and decided to solve this issue in the near future.
Several proposals were put forward in the meeting to improve IINA`s activity and establish fruitful cooperation among member news agencies.
A new website of IINA was presented at the meeting, as well.
The organisation`s next meeting will be held in 2013.
The International Islamic News Agency, a specialized organ of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), is a news agency publishing in Arabic, English and French and focusing on news about the Islamic world and Islamic affairs. The agency was established in 1972, under a resolution of the Third Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers. It is financed by OIC member states.
Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency has been a member of IINA since 2010.
