Khojaly genocide commemoration day held in Ottawa
Baku, February 27 (AZERTAC). The Azerbaijani Youth of Canada Network (AYCN), Azerbaijani Student Association at the University of Toronto (AzSA UofT), Azerbaijani Student Association at the University of Waterloo (AzSA UW) and members of Azerbaijani communities from Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa held a Khojaly genocide commemoration day in Ottawa.
Armed with placards, flags and flyers the demonstrators first visited the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa. The placards and the flyers reflected evidences about the Khojaly genocide, occupation of Karabakh by the Armenian forces, numbers of killed and tortured civilians in Khojaly, and quotes from the international media and human rights organizations on the Khojaly massacre. The protesters called on the Canadian Government to recognize the Khojaly Genocide and chanted the following slogans, “Recognize Khojaly genocide”, “Stop Armenian terrorism!”, “Armenian terrorists, out of Karabakh!”, “We want peace”, “We demand justice!”, “Justice for Khojaly” and other slogans.
The demonstrators then moved towards the Embassy of Armenia in Canada, while stopping at the major intersections and chanting the slogans. Despite the extremely cold weather conditions the protest at the Embassy lasted for more than an hour, as the demonstrators chanted messages “Sargsyan is a terrorist!”, “We want Karabakh”, “We want peace! We want justice! We want our lands!”, “Sargsyan, shame on you!”, and “Your president is a terrorist!”.
Canadian harsh winter produced many obstacles for the Canadian-Azerbaijanis all along the route, but the inspired demonstrators kept going! Freezing wind and heavy snowfall did not thwart the protestors from marching on the streets of Ottawa for four hours.
