October 20th is the World Day of Statistics
Baku, October 20 (AZERTAC). According to relevant Resolution of General Assembly of the United Nations, October 20, 2010 was declared the World Day of Statistics. It was decided to celebrate this day on the theme "Celebrating of many achievements of official statistics".
By adoption of this Resolution the General Assembly has officially confirmed fundamental value of the national statistical organizations in preparation of the reliable statistical data. In this connection, the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has applied to heads of all states of the world to assist in celebrating of the World Day of Statistics at high level.
According to all available information, the World Day of Statistics will be marked in more than 100 countries, and also the United Nations and other international organizations. Importance of this day for the Azerbaijan statisticians consists in that this year already 164 years elapse from the date of the statistics organization in Azerbaijan, and the official statistics - 90 years. So, on August 19, 1920 the Azerbaijan Revolutionary Committee has confirmed the first Regulations on the state statistics. Work of statistical bodies in Azerbaijan has been directed in all periods on performance of the primary goals the statistics bodies face. First of all, it consisted in timely gathering, processing of scientifically well-founded statistical data on social and economic development of the country and in bringing it to all social strata.
Today, Azerbaijan has well-organized statistics answering to the international standards. The State Committee on Statistics cooperates with more than 50 international organizations and statistical bodies of the country. Achievements in statistics sphere became possible thanks to high care of the government. Great leader Heydar Aliyev highly appreciated statistics.
