PARIS HOSTS CONFERENCE ON MIGRATION AND VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IN EUROPE
Baku, December 12 (AZERTAC). The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) jointly with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) organized on December 10-11 here a regional conference entitled “Migration and Violence against Women in Europe”.
Azerbaijan was represented in the conference by member of Milli Majlis Gultakin Hajibayli. She told AZERTAC`s special correspondent the purpose of the conference was to inform European parliamentarians about the causes of heightened vulnerability of migrant women to gender-based violence and identify responses to ensure respect for their fundamental rights.
She noted the event provided opportunity to explore various forms of international cooperation to combat violence against women in the context of migration.
Hajibayli said she also participated in the event as a national coordinator for Council of Europe-initiated “Say no to violence against women” campaign in Azerbaijan.
She briefed the participants on what had been done in her country as part of the campaign. Hajibayli underlined that Azerbaijan was one of the first countries to join the campaign.
The conference participants praised the work done in Azerbaijan to fight violence against women.
