President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Joan Laporta, President of FC Barcelona, on March 1.
Expressing gratitude for the reception, FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta recalled his first visit to Azerbaijan during COP29. He noted that he was deeply impressed by Baku’s development. Emphasizing the great potential for cooperation in Azerbaijan, Laporta stated that this was the reason for his second visit to the country within a short period.
The discussions highlighted the government's support for the development of sports in Azerbaijan, particularly football. It was noted that the country successfully hosts prestigious international sports competitions and world-class football matches in accordance with the highest standards.
During the meeting, it was mentioned that a document on the establishment of the Barcelona Football Academy in Azerbaijan would be signed. The sides also exchanged views on the future activities of the academy and cooperation in the development of children's football in Azerbaijan.
Joan Laporta presented a keepsake to President Ilham Aliyev.
