Statement of Azerbaijan’s Embassy to Federative Republic of Germany
Berlin, April 30 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan’s Embassy to the Federative Republic of Germany on Monday issued a following statement: “Embassy of the Federative Republic of Germany to Azerbaijan has already expressed its attitude towards the article published not long ago in Azerbaijan’s “Yeni Azerbaijan” newspaper and covering anti-Azerbaijani activities of several German organizations.
The reaction of the German Embassy in Baku to this issue comes as a complete surprise. First of all because media in Azerbaijan, as in Germany, is independent and Azerbaijan’s government has no authority to exert pressure on mass media. Secondly, after Azerbaijan’s victory in Eurovision song contest, several circles in Germany have been systematically waging a disgraceful anti-Azerbaijani campaign.
Unfortunately, German Federal Government Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Aid Markus Loening, Germany’s representative in the Council of Europe Christopher Strasser as well as several members of the German Bundestag have been actively involved in this campaign.
This campaign is also supported by a wide range of German’s media including Der Spiegel and ARD.
The content of these materials demonstrates that several circles in Germany pursue an aim to harm the image of Azerbaijan.
We believe that such a campaign of slander and fiction will not affect German people’s attitude towards Azerbaijan and will not undermine friendly relations and close cooperation between Azerbaijan and Germany.”
