Tbilisi hosts Informal Eastern partnership dialogue
Tbilisi, February 13 (AZERTAC). Tbilisi has hosted the 2nd meeting of informal dialogue on the European Union`s (EU) Eastern Partnership program.
The event brought together delegations from Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and Armenia, as well as Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle and Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service Helga Schmid.
Azerbaijan`s delegation at the meeting was headed by the Deputy FM Mahmud Mammaguliyev.
Georgian FM Maya Panjikidze told AZERTAC that the first meeting on the Eastern partnership program was held in Chisinau in 2012. For the first time the event will also feature the meeting of the EU representatives with the Transportation ministers. The minister stressed the role of the event in furthering Georgia`s integration into the world.
Azerbaijani Deputy FM Mammadguliyev said the initiative on establishment of the Eastern Partnership program was suggested by the EU and supported by members.
“The foreign ministers` meeting is held twice a year as part of the initiative.” He noted that Vilnius would host the Eastern Partnership summit in November. “We think that the main barrier to strengthening the cooperation within the Eastern partnership program in the region is the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. We suggested that the EU should use its influence and should not confine itself to just supporting OSCE Minsk Group`s activity,” Mammadguliyev added.
During the briefingç Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle touched upon the conflicts in the region and stressed that the OSCE Minsk group was taking an active part in the settlement of the problem.
He also expressed the EU`s interest in finding a solution to the conflicts soon.
