Unhealthy nutrition leads to catastrophic consequences
Baku, March 7 (AZERTAC). Every seventh person in the world is starving, but many suffer from obesity - overweight 1.3 billion people on the planet. This was stated by the Special Reporter on the Right to Food Olivier de Schutter, speaking in Geneva today at the 19th session of the Human Rights Council, UN News Center reported. “Urbanization, super market izatsiya and the global spread of Western lifestyles supplanted the traditional style of food. As a result, we are faced with catastrophic consequences for human health “- said the special reporter. He added that the right to food does not only mean access to sufficient food, but also the opportunity to have a balanced and nutritious diet. Malnutrition is still prevalent in the world - one in seven people go hungry. At the same time 1.3 billion people worldwide are overweight. At least 300 million people are obese. The Special Reporter called on all countries of the world instead of pills for obesity and special tablets for those suffering from a lack of certain nutrients to offer the public a strategy to combat unhealthy eating. In his report to Olivier De Schutter proposed to levy high taxes on unhealthy foods, to regulate the sale of food high in fat and sugar, as well as to stop advertising junk food. The representative of the United Nations recommended that governments provide support to local farmers who supply the markets of healthy and fresh products.
