U.S. EMBASSY IN AZERBAIJAN BACKS DEMOCRATIC PROJECTS VIA SMALL GRANTS PROGRAMS
Baku, 11 December (AZERTAC). As part of its continuing program in support of strengthened democratic institutions and values in Azerbaijan, the U.S. Embassy announced the 2010 winter round of the Democracy Commission Small Grants Program, said the Emabssy`s public affairs officer Terry Davidson.
According to him, the program seeks to support development of Azerbaijan`s democratic institutions and civil society by awarding on competitive basis small project grants not to exceed $24,000 to Azerbaijani NGOs, nonprofit community-based organizations, nonprofit associations and community groups, as well as independent local media outlets.
“Support for democracy is a key element of our strategic partnership with Azerbaijan”, said Devidson. “Our goal is to help strengthen civil society in Azerbaijan, enriching the nation`s pluralistic debate and contributing to stronger democratic institutions”, he added.
The themes of the program are building civic responsibility and democratic values, development of professional media and participatory journalism, advancing collective responsibility to protect the environment and others.
