The U.S. Ambassador economic and scientific adviser Tomas Sadowski met the leadership of the Institute of Geology under the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences /NAS/ to discuss the issues of collaboration and exchange of experience between the Institute of Geology and the U.S. research institutions, funds etc, AzerTAj correspondent reports. Mr. Sadowsky was particularly curious about the cooperation established between the Institute and the U.S. Civilian Research & Development Foundation (CRDF). Senior staff scientist of the Institute Fakhraddin Gadirov let Mr. Sadowski know that in late 2003, the CRDF granted 225 thousand dollars to the Institute of Geology. The funds, according to him, have been spent on purchasing various equipment including South African made seismic monitoring system “ISS”, three units “GPS Trimble-5700” and “Burris gravity meter” from the United States, and a computer.
Director of the Institute, Academician Akif Alizadeh expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation between scientists and different scientific organizations of the United States, and asked the Adviser to promote providing opportunities to use CRDF electronic library. He further familiarized Mr. Sadowski with fundamental research works published by collaborators of the Institute for the past years, and presented to him three books: “Hydrocarbon Potential of the Caspian Region”, “South Caspian Basin: Geology, Geophysics and Oil-and-gas Content” and “All About Mud Volcanoes”.
