WORLD JUNIORS AND GIRLS CHESS CHAMP-2003 ENDED
World juniors and girls chess championship, held in Nakhchivan ended.As AzerTAj correspondent informs, on July 3 the last 13th round among the boys and 11th round among the girls were held in the Nakhchivan Olympic Sports Complex. At the last round, Shahriyar Mammadyarov defeated the Russian chess-player Vitaliy Bachin and thus, Azerbaijani player with 10 points for 13 rounds won the title of the World Champion. Belarus Sergey Azarov is the second with 9,5 points, Ukrainian Alexander Zubov is the third with 8,5 points. Other Azerbaijani chess-players Gadir Huseynov and Vugar Hashimov shared 4-5th places. Rauf Mammadov, having 7,5 points fulfilled the norm of the international master. In the girls’ section, Nana Dzagnidze from Georgia particularly distinguished among the other players. She won gold medal of the Championship, having collected 9,5 points. Romanian Kristina Kalotesnu won the silver medal. Azerbaijani Zeynab Mammadyarova, loosing in the last round to Indian Taniya Sacideni, won the bronze medal of the Championship.On July 3, the closing ceremony was held in the Nakhchivan Olympic Sports Complex. Chair of the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Vasif Talibov was awarded with the memorable medal by the Organizational Committee of the World Championship for high-level organization and implementation of the Championship. This award was presented to him by MP, Chairman of the Azerbaijani Chess Federation, international Grand Master Aynur Sofiyeva. Medals to the winners and distinguished in the Championship were awarded by Vasif Talibov and Aynur Sofiyeva.
