Baku, March 14, AZERTAC
The Conference of the Parties (COP) is recognized as one of the most inclusive platforms in the United Nations system, which brings together not only government representatives but also civil society, academic circles, youth and other stakeholders, Yalchin Rafiyev, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, COP29 Lead Negotiator, said during a briefing held at the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organization (NAMYO) headquarters.
The deputy minister emphasized that hosting COP29 in November 2024 was a landmark achievement for Azerbaijan, marking one of the most important international events in the history of his country’s independence.
According to him, the successful outcomes of the Baku-hosted summit have left a lasting legacy and remembered as a significant milestone in the COP process.
Noting that climate finance is not only an issue discussed between governments, Rafiyev underlined that the non-state partners have also a great role to play in this area.
Touching upon the preparations for COP31, scheduled to take place in Türkiye, the COP29 Lead Negotiator said that Samed Ağırbaş, Türkiye's Climate High-Level Champion for COP31, has extensive experience in the field of climate and is already actively collaborating with various stakeholders.
According to Rafiyev, Azerbaijan has expressed its support for brotherly Türkiye for the successful delivery of COP31 and will continue to maintain cooperation in advancing the climate agenda.
