Association of Progressive Muslims of Canada hosts iftar party

Baku, July 27 (AZERTAC). Association of Progressive Muslims of Canada hosted an iftar party on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan on Thursday in Ottawa Mayor`s Office.

The iftar party has been arranged with support of the City Mayor`s Office, Royal Bank of Canada and Azerbaijan Embassy in the country.

According to Azerbaijan Embassy in Canada, the event was attended by representatives of diplomatic corps in Ottawa and local community and members of Azerbaijani society.

Mayor of Ottawa, Azerbaijani ambassador to Canada Farid Shafiyev and others made speeches in the iftar party.

Providing information on Azerbaijan, Farid Shafiyev spoke of religious freedom and tolerance and existence and activities of the different religious communities in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani ambassador also touched upon islamophobia and problems which Muslims face in the Western countries.

Mr. Shafiyev underlined intensification of struggle against islamophobia.
