AZERBAIJAN AND IRAN WIDEN ENERGY COOPERATION
The newly constructed trans-Azerbaijan PTL (power transmission line) Astara (Azerbaijan)-Astara (Iran) will be extended up to Azerbaijani cities of Salyan and Alibayramli. The line will be extended in the Iranian territory as well that according to the press-service of the JSC ‘Azerenergi’ will allow to ensure trouble-free energy supply of the southern regions of the country and Nachivan Autonomous Republic.
The PTL’s joint construction is a result of fruitful co-operation of Azerbaijani and Iranian power engineering specialists, which has started in the course of the visit by President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev to Iran and his negotiations with the country’s leader Mohammad Khatami.
In the framework of the projects proposed by the two states’ leaders, national energy companies “Azerenergy” and “Tavanir” have developed and are implementing the concrete program of co-operation.
