Azerbaijan, Pakistan discuss prospects for interparliamentary relations

On July 7, Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, met with a visiting Pakistani parliamentary delegation led by Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Speaker of the National Assembly.
The meeting emphasized that the strategic ties between Azerbaijan and Pakistan are built on the principles of brotherhood and friendship. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova described the visit of her Pakistani counterpart as a clear manifestation of the high-level relations between the two countries. Referring to the Pakistani parliamentary speaker’s meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, she stressed that the Azerbaijani head of state attaches great importance to strengthening bilateral relations with Pakistan.
Speaker Gafarova highlighted that Azerbaijan deeply values Pakistan’s consistent support during the 30-year Armenian occupation of Azerbaijani territories and throughout the Patriotic War.
She also noted the successful work of the interparliamentary friendship groups in both countries, the close ties between their legislative bodies, and their effective cooperation within international organizations. Speaker Gafarova emphasized the importance of the Azerbaijan-Pakistan-Türkiye trilateral cooperation format as one of the key achievements of the three strategically allied countries.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq reiterated that Azerbaijan and Pakistan are two brotherly nations that always stand by each other. He expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for its unwavering solidarity with Pakistan regarding the conflict with India.
Speaker Sadiq noted that the ECO Summit held in Khankendi a few days ago sent a strong signal to the global community and demonstrated support for Azerbaijan’s victory.
He also shared his perspectives on the future development of interparliamentary relations, emphasized the importance of knowledge exchange, and provided an overview of the structure and operational principles of the Pakistani Parliament, underlining the crucial role of frequent reciprocal visits.
The meeting also addressed other issues of mutual interest.
