AZERBAIJANI PRESS PRESERVES BRIGHT TRADITIONS, PRESIDENT ALIYEV
Baku, July (AZERTAC).Azerbaijani press has great traditions and these traditions continue today, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stated at the meeting with the county`s media captains at the ceremony of opening of the new office of Azerbaijan Press Council on the day of 135th anniversary of the national press.
The head of state congratulated the media people on the National Press Day and praised activity of the Azerbaijan Press Council.
Since its foundation, the Press Council has played very positive role in development of cooperation between the state structures and media, the President emphasized. The Council has always a clear and stable stance in protection of the rights of journalists, and in general, made great steps in development of the freedom of word and democracy in the country, he said.
After Azerbaijan regained its state independence, in short period there was a notable and speedy development in the field of media, President Aliyev stressed. In particular, the head of state reminded elimination of censorship in 1998, wich was really a historic and great achievement in this sphere. And today the state of Azerbaijan makes consecutive steps for development of freedom of word wich is the indication of our expedient policy, the President said.
