AZERI COMMUNITY IN UNITED STATES TO CELEBRATE NOVRUZ HOLIDAY
Baku, March 13 (AZERTAC). The United States’ Azerbaijani Diaspora will celebrate Novruz Bayram - the beginning of spring and the first day of the solar New Year - in different cities of US. Thus, on March 19 and 20, New York, which has become home to many Azerbaijanis, will feature Novruz festivities in BakuPalace and Turqua restaurants. A Novruz party and concert supported by Azerbaijan Trade and Cultural Center will be held on March 21 in Rockville, Maryland. Furthermore, Houston - Baku Sister City Association will support Novruz celebrations at Demers Banquet Hall on March 19, while on March 25 the holiday will be marked at Houston City Hall. Recently, AZERTAC also triggered series of lectures on the theme of Novruz Bayram in several colleges of California.
The holiday of Novruz, a celebration of renewal and peace, is widely marked throughout the nations of Eurasia, from the Middle East to the Caucasus and Central Asia. The festivities of Novruz highlight both the diversity and similarities of the region`s cultures. It marks the shared cultural heritage among the different peoples. For the people of Azerbaijan, who have been celebrating Novruz Bayram for centuries, this holiday of renewal has acquired a new meaning since the nation`s independence in 1991.
