Georgian Parliament Speaker visits Azerbaijani Parliament
Baku, July 7 (AZERTAC). A delegation led by Speaker of the Georgian Parliament David Usupashvili has today visited the Parliament of Azerbaijan.
Usupashvili familiarized himself with an administrative building and a meeting hall of the Parliament.
He also viewed national leader Heydar Aliyev`s memorial hall in the Parliament and signed the guest book.
Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ogtay Asadov and Chairman of the Georgian Parliament David Usupashvili then had a one-on-one meeting.
The meeting continued in an expanded format with the participation of the two delegations.
Ogtay Asadov said such visits contributed to the development of ties between the two countries, as well as the parliaments.
Recalling Azerbaijan-Georgia relations have historical roots, Asadov said the two countries` peoples enjoyed friendly and fraternal relations.
Asadov said the relations reached the level of strategic partnership after the two countries regained independence.
He noted that there was a strong legal framework for the relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia.
The Azerbaijani Speaker said more than 100 documents had been signed up to now and trade turnover between the two countries was more than USD 660 million.
Asadov also spoke of the large scale of projects implementing in the region with the participation of Azerbaijan and Georgia, and noted Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line would be completed till the end of the year.
The Speaker hailed relations between the parliaments of the two countries, and stressed the importance of deepening these ties even further.
He also pointed out the importance of holding Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia meetings in a trilateral format and praised holding such meetings also between the parliamentary committees.
Speaker of the Georgian Parliament David Usupashvili noted the meeting as important in terms of discussion of bilateral ties between the two countries.
Usupashvili hailed the current state of the Azerbaijan-Georgia relations.
He said the country was interested in further expanding these ties and the countries shared same positions on all major issues.
The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament highlighted the key role of the interparliamentary ties in expanding bilateral ties between the two countries.
Usupashvili also stressed the importance of the joint projects implemented by the two countries.
