Passenger train derails in UK’s East Sussex
Baku, August 13, AZERTAC
A train has derailed in East Sussex, closing several rail routes in the area, according to BBC.
Network Rail said a Southern service came off the tracks in the Lewes area shortly before 16:00 BST.
British Transport Police confirmed it was at the scene close to Lewes station, alongside paramedics and the fire service.
Emergency services have asked people to avoid the area and anyone travelling by rail in the area is being asked to allow up to 60 minutes for their journeys.
A spokesperson for Network Rail and Southern Rail said: "We are aware that a passenger train has derailed in the Lewes area of East Sussex.
"Emergency services are on site and we will update with more information when we can."
South East Coast Ambulance also confirmed it was attending the scene, on the line between Haywards Heath and Lewes.
Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said on X: "Grateful to emergency services who are on the scene supporting those impacted.
"We are working quickly with the rail industry and local partners to assist passengers."
