MEMBERS OF UK-AZERBAIJAN INTERPARLIAMENTARY GROUP VISIT MILLI MAJLIS
Baku, July 12 (AZERTAC). Members of UK-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Group visited Milli Majlis. Chairman of Azerbaijan-UK Interparliamentary Group
Chingiz Asadullayev briefed on the country`s political and economic reforms and development of the bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and UK. On economic development of Azerbaijan, Mr. Asadullayev said the drastic changes have taken place in the country after return of the national leader Heydar Aliyev to the power. He touched on Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh, occupation of 20% of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia and over 1 million Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs.
Mr. Asadullayev said huge investments were made in the country`s economy after signing of the “Contract of century” in 1994. Today, UK`s share in Azerbaijan`s oil and gas sector makes up over 50 percent. Every condition was created to develop business in Azerbaijan, he said.
Head of the UK-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Group Marc Field hailed bilateral relations between the two countries and role of interparliamentary group in boosting cooperation. He said his country is keen to develop relations with Azerbaijan not only in gas and oil sector but also in financial, humanitarian and other sectors.
