MILLI MAJLIS FIRST VICE-SPEAKER MEETS DUTCH MPs
Baku, July 5 (AZERTAC). First vice-speaker of Azerbaijan Milli Majlis Ziyafat Asgarov has met today a group of Dutch parliamentarians.
Asgarov said such visits contribute to developing relations between Azerbaijan and Netherlands.
He said Azerbaijan attaches significant importance to democratic values.
Asgarov briefed the MPs on the ongoing political and economic reforms in his country.
Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, he said the dispute poses serious obstacle to development of the region. He said Armenia`s aggressive policy against Azerbaijan led to the occupation of 20 percent of the country`s territories, and more than one million people had been driven out from their original lands by force.
Asgarov added official Yerevan does not honor documents adopted by international organizations on settlement of the conflict.
He underlined Azerbaijan can liberate its territories by the military way, but official Baku prefers peaceful settlement of the dispute on the basis of the principles of international law.
Head of the delegation Henk Jan Ormel said Netherlands understands the geostrategic position of Azerbaijan in the South Caucasus region. He said his country supports Azerbaijan`s stance on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.
Ormel also hailed the ongoing development process in Azerbaijan.
He underlined though Netherlands has a long history of democracy but there much to learn from Azerbaijan.
