OANA meeting kicks off in Bangkok
Baku, December 14 (AZERTAC). A meeting dedicated to the 50th jubilee of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) started in Bangkok, Thailand.
Welcoming the participants, deputy director of UNESCO office in Bangkok Etienne Clement said UNESCO was an initiator of establishment of OANA. He said the Organization plays a leading role in spreading true and efficient information among the Asia-Pacific countries.
President of OANA, Director General of Anadolu Agency Kemal Ozturk thanked Thai News Agency in organizing this jubilee meeting. He appealed participants to pay more attention to media-ethics and strengthening of cooperation among the agencies. Thai foreign minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul stressed OANA`s jubilee is coincided with birthday of King of Thailand. He stressed OANA`s contribution to mutual understanding and cooperation in the region. He said destructive flood couldn`t hamper the economic growth of the country.
The meeting participants watched a video clip on the 50th anniversary of the organization. The meeting was followed by the round-table discussions.
OANA was founded in Bangkok, in December 22 1961 at the initiative of the UN and UNESCO. Aim of the organization is to exchange news among the Asia-Pacific countries. OANA unites 44 agencies from 35 countries.
