OMBUDSWOMAN DISCUSSES RELIGIOUS ISSUES WITH UN SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR
Commissioner for Human Rights of Azerbaijan Republic Elmira Suleymanova met with Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion and Belief of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights Ms. Asma Jahangir.
Ombudswoman updated the visitor on the national and religious composition of the population and noted that all peoples in Azerbaijan had always lived in peace and harmony. According to E. Suleymanova, the main religions of Azerbaijan are Islam, Christianity and Judaism.
Ombudswoman found a need to expand ties among religious structures, popularize religious tolerance among young men and women and attract non-governmental organizations and mass media to this process.
