Khalaf Khalafov: Professional media plays a crucial role in combating disinformation
Baku, October 1, AZERTAC
“Amid rising geopolitical tensions in the modern international relations system, where disinformation and hate speech have become tools of confrontation, the work of objective, responsible, and professional media is of particular importance. Strengthening mutual trust between states and societies, expanding international cooperation, and enhancing joint efforts to address global challenges also require coordinated efforts in the media sector,” said Khalaf Khalafov, Representative of the President of Azerbaijan on Special Assignments, in his address to the CICA Media Forum on “Building Trust through Media in a Polarized World,” held in Baku.
Describing the expansion of cooperation in the media sector as one of the priorities of Azerbaijan’s chairmanship, Khalaf Khalafov added: “Professional exchange of experience within a unified information space, strengthening joint efforts to combat disinformation, and promoting the principles of responsible journalism are of particular importance.”
He noted that violations of international law, including sovereignty and territorial integrity, pose serious challenges to global security, alongside terrorism, separatism, extremism, cyber threats, disinformation, and risks to food, energy, water, and climate security.
Khalaf Khalafov stressed that international law remains a key foundation for building a just world order and ensuring lasting peace.
