Baku hosts World Aquatics Swimming World Cup 2026 opening ceremony

The opening ceremony of the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup 2026 was held at the Baku Aquatic Palace on October 1.
In his remarks, Farid Gayibov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Youth and Sports, noted that sport has been defined as one of the pillars of Azerbaijan’s state policy by President Ilham Aliyev.
According to him, Azerbaijan achieves new sporting successes every year in this regard.
He also expressed gratitude to World Aquatics and the organizers.
Subsequently, Zaur Aliyev, President of the Azerbaijan Swimming Federation, described the event as a landmark occasion for the country, adding that welcoming over 200 athletes from 44 countries in Baku is an indicator of the trust placed in Azerbaijan.
Husain Al Musallam, President of World Aquatics, expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for the excellent organization of the event.
He also presented Azerbaijan and the city of Baku with the World Aquatics Foundation Environmental Award for their continuous efforts aimed at preserving the environment.
A total of 216 swimmers from 44 countries are competing in the tournament.
Azerbaijan’s hopes are pinned on 15 athletes.
The Baku leg of the World Cup will conclude on October 3.
