SHEKI HOSTED INTERNATIONAL WOMEN CHESS TOURNAMENT
International women chess tournament on the occasion of the Independence Day organized by the ministry of Youth, Sport and Tourism, State Olympic Committee, Chess Federation of Azerbaijan and Executive authority of Sheki ended on October 23 in Sheki, Azerbaijan. Some 10 well-known chess players from 7 countries took part in the tournament held in Sheki Olympic Sport Complex. Lela Javakishvilli with 7.5 points was the winner of the tournament. Russian athlete Ekaterina Kovalevskaya with 7 points was second and Slovenian Anna Mizuchik with 5 points was third. In the closing ceremony of the tournament held in Sheki State Drama Theater, director of the tournament Mahir Mammadov and 5 times world champion Nona Gaprindashvilli thanked the State Olympic Committee, Chess Federation of Azerbaijan and Executive authority of Sheki for organization of the tournament.
