Baku, June 29 (AZERTAC). Pakistani security officials say a suspected U.S. missile strike has killed at least 10 militants, including a suspected al-Qaida operative, in the country`s northwest, VOA reported.

Officials say a drone fired two missiles at a compound near Wana, the main town in the South Waziristan tribal region on Tuesday. Foreign fighters were said to be among those killed.

It was the first reported missile strike in South Waziristan, where Pakistani troops have been battling Taliban and and al-Qaida-linked militants. The majority of drone missile strikes have hit North Waziristan.

U.S. President Barack Obama has increased the use of drone strikes to target al-Qaida and Taliban hideouts in Pakistan, along the Afghan border. .

Pakistan`s government publicly objects to the attacks, saying they violate its sovereignty. But it is widely thought there is a tacit agreement between the U.S. intelligence agency, the CIA, and Islamabad to allow such strikes.
