TOYOTA RECALLS 270,000 LEXUS CARS
Baku, July 7 (AZERTAC). Toyota is recalling 138,000 Lexus cars in the United States, and a total of about 270,000 worldwide, to fix an engine problem that can cause rough idling and unexpected shutdowns, the company said today.
The recall of cars from Toyota’s luxury division is another blow against the beleaguered Japanese automaker, once known for unparalleled quality but now doing damage control over the millions of vehicles recalled since last year, some for deadly defects. The new recall, which effects certain 2006, 2007 and 2008 GS, IS and LS models powered by V6 or V8 engines, is to repair faulty engine valve springs. No reports of accidents or injuries have been reported.
Toyota said the valve-spring problem affects a miniscule number of cars, with an estimated likelihood of two-tenths of one percent, the automaker said. Therefore, owners were told they should continue driving their vehicles prior to their recall repair.
This will be the second recent recall for Lexus. About 17,000 hybrid models were called back to fix a problem that could cause gas leaks after a collision.
Toyota has recalled more than 10.6 million vehicles worldwide since last year, causing untold damage to its quality image. Most significant were the recalls of millions of vehicles to address unintended-acceleration issues that have been blamed in more than 50 deaths and resulted in a U.S. fine of $16.4 million against Toyota.
