US Azerbaijanis protest against French National Assembly`s genocide denial decision
Washington, December 24 (AZERTAC). The US Turkish community has started the letter action campaign against the French National Assembly`s decision regarding the “Armenian genocide”.
The US Turkic Network has issued a statement saying the French law-makers` bill penalizing Armenian genocide denial insults millions of Turks and violates freedom of speech as the basis of democracy.
`Such an attack on freedom of speech in France is extremely negative,` Executive Director of the US Azeris Network Adil Bagirov said.
He added unlike France the bill restricting freedom of speech is impossible in USA. Bagirov pointed out France must be ousted from OSCE Minsk Group chairmanship.
Co-founder of the US Azeris Network Badir Mammadli said French National Senate`s decision sparks anger and indignation.
“The nation which limits freedom of speech can not give democracy lessons to others,” he said.
“On behalf of the US Azeris Network, we, together with the Turkish diaspora in USA, will work to educate the American society on the negative results of the law adopted in France and the bill the Armenian lobby wants to pass in the USA.”
The House of Representatives passed a resolution HR 306, which accuses Turkey of destruction of Christian heritage of ancient and modern Turkey as a form of genocide against Christians. Only three out of 435 House members were present in the voting for the resolution sponsored by Reps. Howard Berman and Edward Royce.
