AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL GLITCH DELAYS EUROPEAN FLIGHTS

Baku, August 20 (AZERTAC). An air traffic control problem has reportedly hit more than 1,000 flights in northern Europe.

Germany and the Netherlands were among the countries affected, reports said.

The problem hit the Eurocontrol radar system, affecting flights over 7,500m (24,600 feet), a German spokesman told the Associated Press news agency.

Frankfurt airport in Germany later said the problem had been resolved, although some disruption to flights was expected to continue.

Belgium and Luxembourg were also affected, while the UK reported some delays to flights into and out of the country.

UK officials confirmed that the problem with the radar service, based at Maastricht in the Netherlands, had now been fixed.

A total of 1,036 flights faced delays of up to 45 minutes, AP reported.
