Alternative housing models in spotlight of WUF13
Baku, May 19, AZERTAC
The event entitled “Community-led housing in Europe – tools for cities beyond markets” was held as part of the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13).
The event explored the role of community-based housing models in shaping accessible and sustainable living environments.
It was noted that there is growing interest among governments and other stakeholders in alternative housing approaches that provide long-term and affordable housing opportunities.
Speakers noted that community-led housing models prioritize long-term accessibility and collective management. These models ensure housing affordability over time through mechanisms such as the separation of land and building rights, long-term land leases, resale price limits, and cooperative ownership structures.
