Anacláudia Rossbach: We urgently need to respond to the housing crisis
Baku, May 19, AZERTAC
The global housing crisis continues to deepen, seriously threatening the sustainable development of modern urban centers, said Anacláudia Rossbach, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), at the presentation ceremony of the World Cities Report 2026 held as part of WUF13.
The UN official stressed that every nation must design customized strategies that fit its unique domestic economy and urban planning infrastructure.
“In many places, people cannot afford to buy or rent a house. This has become an issue for young people and the population in cities. People live in dangerous conditions. The first victims of natural disasters are people living in informal settlements and losing their homes. It is for this reason that the issue of informality is open in the World Cities Report for 2026, and we also need to urgently respond to the housing crisis we are experiencing,” Anacláudia Rossbach noted.
