Azerbaijani ambassador presents credentials to Peruvian President
Baku, November 15 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s ambassador to Mexico, with concurrent accreditation to Peru Ilgar Mukhtarov has presented his credentials to Peruvian President Ollanta Humala Tasso.
President Ollanta Humala Tasso and ambassador Mukhtarov had a conversation, during which they discussed expansion of political relations between the two countries and prospects for bilateral energy cooperation.
Mukhtarov briefed the Peruvian President on the history, culture, economic potential of Azerbaijan.
They also touched upon education cooperation between Azerbaijan and Peru. The ambassador noted Peruvian young diplomats could participate in education programs of the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy. This proposal aroused President Ollanta Humala Tasso`s interest.
Mukhtarov also spoke of the ongoing negotiation process to settle the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The ambassador also presented the copy of his credentials to the Foreign Minister of Peru Rafael Roncagliolo who extended his congratulations on Azerbaijan`s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
The Azerbaijani diplomat also met Peruvian Minister of Energy and Mines, Carlos Herrera. They discussed cooperation within the framework of international economic projects and investment opportunities.
Mukhtarov also met Deputy Culture Minister of Peru. During the meeting the sides reached an agreement on organizing culture days of Azerbaijan and Peru in 2012.
The ambassador also met officials of the Foreign Ministry, Diplomatic Academy and members of the Peruvian Congress to exchange views on relations between Azerbaijan and Peru.
