Azerbaijani FM meets Georgian counterpart
Baku, October 26 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov met Wednesday Georgian counterpart Grigol Vashadze.
Following the meeting, the ministers briefed journalists on the issues they discussed.
Mammadyarov said the talks focused on delimitation of Azerbaijan-Georgia border, bilateral cooperation in energy, transport and other spheres. He added during the meeting the role of continuation of partnership in energy and infrastructure projects was stressed in development of the two countries.
The Minister said Azerbaijan and Georgia had friendly and strategic partnership relations. He also praised political and economic cooperation between the two countries.
The Azerbaijani top diplomat also noted he briefed his Georgian counterpart on the current state of negotiations to settle the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. He added the conflict could be settled after Armenian Armed Forces` withdrawal from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
Mammadyarov said “Azerbaijan`s getting a seat on the UN Security Council is the victory of our people.”
Vashadze, in turn, congratulated Azerbaijan on this landmark victory.
On the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the Georgian Minister said the problem must be settled on the basis of norms and principles of international law.
Vashadze noted he also discussed with his Azerbaijani counterpart regional situation and cooperation in international organizations.
