Azerbaijani representatives attend anti-corruption meeting in Morocco
Baku, October 24 (AZERTAC). A delegation led by Azerbaijan`s Justice Minister Fikrat Mammadov attended the 5th Annual Conference and General Meeting of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) in Morocco.
As Vice-President of the organization, the Azerbaijani Minister opened the session which brought together 300 representatives from 80 countries. Relevant bodies of the United Nations (UN), European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), International Association of Prosecutors and other organizations were also represented in the event.
The head of department of combat against corruption at the General Public Prosecutor of the Azerbaijan Republic Kamran Aliyev briefed the participants on the progress achived in the relevant sphere.
The Strategic Program and Declaration of the Conference were adopted at the end of the meeting. The documents feature strengthening of legislative and institutional framework, international cooperation in combating corruption, increasing of the role of anti-corruption authorities.
The Azerbaijani delegation also held meetings with Moroccan, Chinese, Austrian, Irish delegation on the sidelines of the IAACA conference and discussed cooperation prospects.
Azerbaijani ambassador to Morocco Sabir Agabeyov was also present in the meetings.
IAACA is a non-governmental organization established as a result of the special meeting held at the UN Office in Vienna on 19-20 April 2006. The main objective of the organization is to promote the effective implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption, adopted by the General Assembly on 30 December 2003, and to assist anti-corruption authorities in the world in fighting against corruption.
