Death toll rises to 19 in 2 blasts in Afghanistan
BAKU, January 19 (AZERTAC). The death toll from a suicide bombing which ripped through Kajaki district of Helmand province in southern Afghanistan on Wednesday afternoon rose to 15, bringing the casualties to 19 in a single day`s two blasts, the provincial government said on Thursday.
"The casualties from a suicide bombing in Nawi Bazaar or New Bazaar of Kajaki district has risen to 14 including 10 innocent civilians, three policemen and the bomber," the provincial government said in a press release Thursday morning.
According to locals, a suicide bomber detonated his explosive- laden motorbike, at the middle of the bazaar, near a joint convoy of Afghan forces and NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) troops at around 15:30 local time Wednesday.
It appeared that the attack also killed an ISAF soldier as the NATO-led ISAF confirmed in a press release losing a service member in southern Afghanistan following a blast on Wednesday.
"An International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) service member died as a result of an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in southern Afghanistan yesterday," the NATO-led ISAF forces said in the press release.
